Synthesia, a.s. is one of the main European manufacturers of speciality chemicals backed up by more than 100 years of tradition. From the medical point of view, Synthesia is a leading Czech manufacturer of biodegradable, bioresorbable and biocompatible oxidized cellulose based haemostats which are used especially in the field of professional surgery to stop internal bleeding during a wide range of surgical procedures, including minimally invasive procedures. These products are marketed under the brand name OKCEL® and are available in textile or powder form in various sizes and shapes.
Products of textile forms are professional haemostats designed to control internal capillary, small venous and small arteriolar diffuse bleeding. Haemostasis is achieved within 1.5 minutes in average, the product is perfectly accepted by organism and absorbed in most cases within 14 days. Thanks to protection against infection, OKCEL® products help with tissue regeneration and thus enhance the healing effect. This textile form is produced by selective oxidation of high quality extra-long staple cotton, so due to their natural origin, OKCEL® products do not cause allergic reactions. They are packed in a sealed primary and secondary packaging which provides an outstanding resistance to microbial penetration and superior protection over a whole shelf life period. OKCEL® in textile form is classified as a medical device of class III.
The powder form is a component for manufacturing final haemostats in the form of spray or films that are used to stop bleeding, particularly in first aid situations to treat small cuts, abrasions and scrapes.
